Attempts to make an emulsion using only Arrowroot… these did not go well.
Mixtures Tried (May 2022):
1. V0
- Measurements:
- 20 g Arrowroot
- 20 ml SF Tap Water
- Cooked Very Hot, Burned a bit. Made some kind of gelatinous blob.
- doesn’t seem to dissolve right away
2. V1
- Measurements:
- 5g Arrowroot
- 5ml SF Tap Water
- 1ml PVP-polyvinylpyrrolidone
- 0.6ml 5% SHMP — sodium hexametaphosphate
- Cooked (on stove) Very Hot, Burned a bit. Made some kind of gelatinous blob.
- doesnt seem to dissolve right away
— Interim Note:
- Problems w/ pure AR:
- Thick Solutions (High AR Conc.) have cracking adhesion problems even on glass
- Thin Solution: weak emulsion, detaches on development & dissolves
- There is opportunity for paper transfer, nice surface quality
-
- There’s some interesting possibilities for paper transfer as seen in image above. exposed areas detach.
- Developed areas ‘damage’ the attachment of the emulsion. hard to control, but should follow up
- I believe the VDB solution was mixed directly into the emulsion at this point
